My Favorite Player

Derrick Rose is from Englewood and reps Chicago to the fullest. When he got hurt last season, his injury broke the city's heart and not because it meant the Bulls' playoff run was over. It was like a family member got injured. Even my mom (who has never watched a single basketball game in her life) called me upset. He's not the first pro athlete to play in his hometown, but I don't think a city has ever bonded with a local star like Chicago has with Rose. You can see some of the reasons why in this video. At a moment when he should be hyping his new shoe and counting that adidas money, he spontaneously breaks down and thanks his fans. If you don't like D.Rose, then you don't like basketball (or humanity).

Deez Nuts

We're going to keep our Olympic coverage going here on LOA with these highlights from the France-Spain basketball game. Nic Batum didn't like Spain's flopping and took out his frustrations on Juan Carlos Navarro's nuts. This follows Argentina punching Carmelo Anthony in the balls. At this point, they should have Bob Saget announcing the games.

THE LIN-SANITY CONTINUES...

It takes balls or utter ignorance/ disregard for what is politically correct to actually make a sign that says "The Yellow Mamba" and hold it up in front of twenty thousand people at Madison Square garden. I'm not saying that it's not clever, because it is. This is totally something I would have said; -especially in front of one of my Asian friends.  I admire the 'fuckit-ness' of just making your sign and throwing it up for all the orientals and chinamen to see. I guess at least he had the decency not to hold up a sign saying "The YeRRow Mamba...
