Is Blackface Illusionist Japanese Obama Racist? You Make the Call

The Detroit Murder Dog Corp. offices were abuzz with controversy this week as everyone was debating whether or not a Japanese guy in Obama blackface doing magic tricks was offensive. Remember that in Japan things like tentacle rape cartoons, used womens' underpants sold in vending machines, and french maid cafes are all OK. What do you think LOA? The phone lines are open.

UPDATE: LOA readers have spoken. Verdict is "not racist."

I'd say Racist if that was supposed to be Barack and Michelle Obama, however not racist if it was supposed to be Michael Jackson and 'TC' from Magnum P.I. I'd have given them a full pass had they incorporated tentacle rape, soiled panties and French maids into the magic act. (By the way, how hot was that girl at 3:20!?) Hollaback guuuuuuurlllll!

are the movies white girls, tropic thunder, dave chappelle as the white news anchor and too many other examples to name racist?. i think that lately black/white face has become acceptable satire instead of blantantly racist. in my opinion the shit is cliche as hell but maybe we all wonder what it would be like to jump out of our own skin and be "the other" for at least a day. when it's all said and done the maggots don't care what color your skin is they'll just burrow right through it.

I think racists would find it racist just because their insecure and really...who cares. Its parody, its a joke, its on tv in Japan of all places. Its not like a japanese news anchor is pretending to be black. I bet black people who are comfortable being black and having a black president would get a laugh out of it. frankly, I just think the japanese guy dressed to look like barack looks creepy/funny. thats it. He can pull a rabbit out of a hat and be dressed up as lincoln, but otherwise, who cares.

This has to be Tokyo's equivalent to BET's Comicview. The audience reaction shots are too similar. Everyone is clapping wildly or gasping for breath in hysterics. I am assuming that the jokes are in the vein of "a Japanese person drinks tea like this..., but a Chinese person drinks tea LIKE THIS...!"
